Deep tissue massage is a manual therapy technique designed to address chronic muscle tension and dysfunction in deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It uses slow, sustained pressure and targeted strokes to release adhesions, improve tissue mobility, and reduce pain associated with musculoskeletal dysfunction.

Unlike relaxation massage, deep tissue work focuses on specific anatomical structures, including deep muscle layers, fascia, and trigger points. We address compensation patterns and muscle guarding that contribute to undue stress on certain muscle groups.

Deep tissue massage is commonly used for:

  • Chronic neck and shoulder pain

  • Low back pain

  • Myofascial pain syndrome

  • Postural dysfunction

  • Limited mobility or stiffness

  • Sports-related muscle tension

  • Stress-related muscular guarding

Deep tissue massage should be used cautiously in individuals with:

  • Acute inflammation

  • Bleeding disorders

  • Recent surgery

  • Osteoporosis

  • Anticoagulant medication use

Pressure should always be adjusted to client tolerance to prevent tissue irritation.
